The situation

After a rotator cuff repair or a shoulder replacement, many surgeons ask patients to sleep semi-upright for weeks. Most people end up in a recliner.

Why it wears on you

A recliner holds one angle and nothing more. You wake stiff in the hips, cannot shift to protect the shoulder, and climbing out of the chair at night is awkward one-handed.

How the Ascend helps

Raise the head and foot to whatever angle your surgeon recommends, or tilt the whole bed up to 7 degrees, and save your favorite position on one of three presets. Do you know what is inside your mattress?

Many low-cost mattresses meet fire codes with a fiberglass sock hidden under the cover, wrapped around petroleum-based foam. Unzip the cover or tear the fabric and the fibers can spread through the bedroom, and nobody mentioned it when you bought it.

A Latexpedic contains three ingredients and nothing more: natural latex from the sap of the rubber tree, soft cotton quilting, and wool, which serves as a natural fire barrier. There is no fiberglass, no polyurethane foam and no chemical flame retardant, so the zippered cover is a feature, not a risk.

  1. The sap

    Natural latex starts as milky sap tapped by hand from the rubber tree. The trees are tapped, not cut, and produce for decades.

  2. The latex

    The sap becomes resilient, open-cell latex by the Talalay or Dunlop process. Each Talalay core is rated for firmness before it is used.

  3. Cotton and wool

    Cotton quilting goes on both sides. Wool beneath it is the natural fire barrier that replaces fiberglass and chemicals.

    In our own factory, the latex is layered to your firmness, wrapped and quilted on both sides, and finished with handles and a zippered cover.
